The hubby bought me two awesome books for Christmas that pertain to gardening. The first one is The Winter Harvest Handbook by Eliot Coleman. Coleman lives Maine, where the winters are even harsher than where I’m at, and he still manages to grow and harvest several crops even in the dead of winter. (This gives me hope yet!) There is tons of great information in this book.
The second book is called Seed to Seed by Suzanne Ashworth. This one is a God-send for anyone interested in saving their own seed from their crops for planting the next year. Ashworth breaks down the reproductive cycle of plants and the importance and difference between self-pollination, cross-pollination, wind-pollination, and any other kind of pollination you can think of. She also provides a detailed list of some of the more commonly grown plants around the States and hints and tips on growing them.
